Timeline:

December – Re Enrollment link for online enrollment is provided to the currently enrolled families with a due date of the last Friday in January. In addition, siblings of currently enrolled students will also have access to enrollment with the same due date of the last Friday in January.
January – Open enrollment begins with applications accepted for our first lottery draw at the end of February.
Lottery spots are selected randomly based on open spots per grade level. Every attempt is made to keep all siblings together with the same entry date. Applications not selected in the lottery then become our waiting list. For families with multiple children if space does not allow for the whole family to be accepted, we ask the parents if they are willing to split up their kids. This will allow one child enrollment in the space available and then all siblings will move to a priority spot in their grade. As space become available the registrar calls the priority spot families first, after that applicants are numbered and called in order from the wait list for enrollment. The wait list is kept on file and active until the last day of school prior to December break.

Our Recker Campus serves our K-6 population. Our Montessori Elementary expands through the 9^th grade, allowing for a complete K-9 Montessori experience. Our Power Campus serves our 7^th – 12^th grade students.

We schedule weekly tours where the group will be escorted around the campus with our campus Principal. We will discuss San Tan Charter School’s educational and academic offerings and answer any questions.

Program Highlights:

Recker Campus Preschool – Private Montessori Preschool – 1 year through 5 years
The most important factor to qualify an applicant for acceptance is the match between the family’s educational goals for the child and the Montessori philosophy. Qualified applicants are then selected for available spaces with a focus on maintaining a balance of genders and ages in each classroom. When a position is offered to your child, you will secure the position with a $250 non-refundable registration fee within three business days or forfeit the position.

Recker Campus – K – 6th Grade

Our Recker Campus offers full-day and half-day Kindergarten, Mainstream and Gifted Elementary, as well as Montessori Preschool and Elementary.

Power Campus – 7th – 12th Grade

Our Power Campus offers Junior High and High School programs. Our 7th – 12th grade students must also agree to our Technology and acceptable use guidelines through our Technology Agreement.

My “Why” Story

Merrick Hermann

Math Teacher

Both of my parents were teachers. My dad taught English and my mom taught art. People always marvel that such a creative pair of people managed to produce a mathematician. They would be less surprised if they knew that mathematics is an art: the art of explanation. All the best mathematicians I know are intensely creative, artsy people. One of my favorite things about teaching is that I get to show kids—especially creative ones—that they really are math people, despite what they’ve been saying for years.

Academic Achievement Coordinator

While I was born a Nebraskan Corn Husker, I was raised in the beautiful Sonoran Desert in Scottsdale and Tempe. I matriculated through the Arizona State public school system, which includes the Kyrene School District and Corona Del Sol High School. I continued to the University of Phoenix for my Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education and continued to Arizona State University for my Masters in Gifted Education. I have been teaching for 21 years now, 21 years as a professor at Rio Salado College, eight years with gifted self-contained classes, and 7 years here at San Tan with our amazingly creative gifted students.

Jimmy Ray

Math Teacher/Head Golf Coach

I was born in California, but grew up in Apache Junction, Arizona. I attended school there from kindergarten through graduation. I received my Associates degree while attending both Mesa Community College and Phoenix College. I transferred to Arizona State University to complete my Bachelors degree in Elementary Education. During this time I was employed through the Maricopa Community College District teaching math programs to minority students as well as the athletic department at Arizona State.

My first teaching job was back in Apache Junction in 1996 where I taught junior high and high school math for 15 years along with coaching football, girls basketball and track and field. In 2011, I transferred over to Williams Field High School continuing to teach math and coach football and track.

I am starting my 28th year this school year as a teacher and coach. I am looking forward to a great experience.

Kami Kerby

Music Teacher, SEL Support Staff, Staff “Love and Logic” Coach

I was first introduced to San Tan Charter when they hired me to do a “Magic of Music” training for their preschool teachers. They enjoyed the training so much they came back and offered me a job teaching music in their preschool program. I am a certified Music Together instructor and have been teaching Music Together classes for the past 5 years.

As a college student I studied “International and Cultural Studies” for a year at BYU Hawaii, followed by living abroad in Italy for a year a half. While living abroad I realized as western culture we have lost the art of music-making as a community. We may love listening to music, many of us consume it all day long! However, most of us don’t enjoy making music together, and our kids are paying the price.

Over the past several decades there has been a serious decline in children who start kindergarten with the ability to match pitch, march to the beat of a song. In fact, according to one study less than 50% of kindergarteners are able to distinguish between a speaking voice and a singing voice.

Carol Berhost

Montessori Teacher (1st-3rd)

I have wanted to be a teacher since I was five years old. I was on that path when I decided to take a year break from college. During that time, I found a job with a great company in the corporate world. I started making much more money than a teacher would. As a Corporate Training Manager I felt I had somewhat satisfied my dream of being a teacher. I quit that job to start a family and with three boys attending STCS I volunteered multiple times a week and served on every committee I could. During this time, I realized what incredible people work at STCS. When offered a job here, I jumped at the chance and I am blessed to be able to spend time with amazing children and work toward fulfilling my dream of being a teacher.

As a small child I have always wanted to be a part of life and what makes it happen, empower, enlighten and encourage. As I grew older I realized I wanted to be apart of lives that would appreciate what you do for them no matter how big or small. I found that I could do that in Education and even more so with the special population. Joy in watching others reach achievement they never though they could.
