My Why Story

I was first introduced to San Tan Charter when they hired me to do a "Magic of Music" training for their preschool teachers. They enjoyed the training so much they came back and offered me a job teaching music in their preschool program. I am a certified Music Together instructor and have been teaching Music Together classes for the past 5 years.

As a college student I studied “International and Cultural Studies” for a year at BYU Hawaii, followed by living abroad in Italy for a year a half. While living abroad I realized as western culture we have lost the art of music-making as a community. We may love listening to music, many of us consume it all day long! However, most of us don’t enjoy making music together, and our kids are paying the price.

Over the past several decades there has been a serious decline in children who start kindergarten with the ability to match pitch, march to the beat of a song. In fact, according to one study less than 50% of kindergarteners are able to distinguish between a speaking voice and a singing voice.
